Christina Applegate is Cancer Free

After revealing she was diagnosed with breast cancer, earlier this month, actress Christina Applegate announced Tuesday that she is 100 percent cancer free.

Applegate, 36, was able to fully remove the breast cancer from her body by way of a double mastectomy. Although the actress, whose mother also had breast cancer, says the decision to remove both her breasts, was difficult, she's confident she made the right choice.

The star of the ABC sitcom "Samantha Who?" said that although the cancer had only been located in one breast, the decision to remove both was directly related to the fact that she is genetically at risk for developing the cancer.

In an interview with ABC Applegate discussed dealing with the surgery and her diagnosis. "Sometimes, you know, I cry," Applegate said. "And sometimes I scream. And I get really angry. And I get really upset, you know, into wallowing in self-pity sometimes. And I think it's all part of the healing."

Applegate also mentioned the role her mother played in her recovery. Saying she derived a lot of strength from her, and was glad for her support. She also said knowing that her mother had gone through the exact same thing helped her realize that everything would be OK.

She also told ABC that she would have reconstructive surgery on her breasts in the coming months. She has also started a charitable foundation to help women with the costs of MRI exams, which can help doctors discover the cancer. Many health insurance companies don't cover the high cost of the examination.
