A Wayne County judge this morning ordered the release of a key document that prompted Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s secret $8.4 million lawsuit settlement last fall in a police whistle-blower trial. The document, which leveraged the deal to keep Kilpatrick’s text messages secret, contains extensive excerpts of damaging texts between the mayor and his then-chief of staff Christine Beatty over four months in 2002 and 2003, including never-before-published inflammatory comments from the pair. By: Lynn Green Christine Beatty, Kwame Kilpatrick’s former…..or present(?) lap dog, is close to a plea bargain: Beatty, former chief of staff and ex-lover of Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, appeared in the courthouse with her lawyers about 12:30 p.m. She also was accompanied by her pastor, Rev. Ronald Griffin. Beatty, wearing a dark business suit and looking more rested than when last seen a week ago, did not comment. While reading What About Our Daughters, I learned that Christine Beatty has plead guilty to two counts of obstruction of justice charges stemming from the text-messaging sex scandal case involving former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. As part of the plea deal, the charges of perjury and misconduct were dropped and Ms. Beatty will serve five years probation — the first 120 days to be served in jail — and pay a $100,000 fine based on her ability to pay.
