Christmas Stocking Stuffers For The Entire Family

The tradition of hanging Christmas stockings began in Germany when plain socks were hung to show Santa where to bring their gifts on Christmas Eve. At that time only small gifts or pieces of fruit filled the socks. As times went on the practice of hanging socks was replaced by hanging colorful stockings. By using larger and more colorful stockings, it was intented to make sure that Santa did not miss the stockings. Many poems and stories were written mentioning Christmas stocking of which " 'Twas The Night Before Christmas" by Clement Clarke Moore is the most famous. This poem was originally published with the title " A Visit From St Nicholas" on December 23, 1823, by the New York paper the Sentinal. The poem was originally written by Moore in 1822 on Christmas Eve and submitted by a friend of Moore's during the holiday season of 1823. Many changes have taken place over the years and now Christmas stockings are a major part of our Christmas tradition, with stockings getting larger and more colorful each year.
