The Rat Who Became A Lion™ - #24 The Six Mistakes Of Man..Cicero

This is taken directly from Wiki….about Cicero…..

Marcus Tullius Cicero (Classical Latin pronounced [ˈkikeroː], usually pronounced /ˈsɪsərəʊ/ in English; January 3, 106 BC – December 7, 43 BC) was a Roman statesman, lawyer, political theorist, philosopher, and Roman constitutionalist. Cicero is widely considered one of Rome’s greatest orators and prose stylists

Cicero is generally perceived to be one of the most versatile minds of ancient Rome.

No this is not a history lesson….I don´t have the where with all to take on such a task….

In other words….I´m just to damn lazy

What I want to share with you are some lessons from the past…

Cicero…wrote The Six Mistakes Of Man

Here they are….with a brief commentary…from you guessed it me…on #2 and #6

  1. The delusion that personal gain is made by crushing others.
  2. The tendency to worry about things that cannot be changed or corrected.
  3. Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it.
  4. Refusing to set aside trivial preferences.
  5. Neglecting development and refinement of the mind, and not acquiring the habit of reading and studying.
  6. Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do.

While all six are equally important…..I want to focus especially on two…#2 and #6

All lessons are relevant and permeate our modern culture….

I think that for me #2 and #6 are worth noting..I also want to stress that I´m no master of these

And that I too…struggle with these….but awareness is curative….

What I mean….is that by being aware of these…that´s half the battle…

#2….The tendency to worry about things that cannot be changed or corrected…

Wow….do we live in a culture….of constant worry….

Worry about the past….what happened to me…

And worrying about the future that has yet to come to pass…

Worry is such a mental, emotional, spiritual, and most importantly physical drain….that when you worry…

You actually rob your body…you in a sense lower you own defenses….and open yourself up for further stress…

It´s like some vicious cycle….

Breaking the cycle….entails…just letting it go…and saying to yourself….will this matter 20 years from now…

Chances are that your worrying will not help you resolve the issue that you are worrying about any further….

And it may even make it worse….on you….

#6….Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do.

I´m not sure why….we are so fixating on changing others…..I´m not sure where that comes from…

It´s probably different for each person….

But to compel others to believe and live as we do….is pretty counterproductive….

I could think of better things to do….

Like getting my teeth pulled….

Having my skin lite on fire….

Having my nose hairs trimmed….

You get the picture….

Give up on trying to change others….it will only drive you crazy….trust me…

Just work on you….

So heed the warning…yes warning…from a wise man…who live more than 2,000 years ago….
