Demotix!
Are you a citizen journalist? Do you take pictures and write about what you see in your community? Demotix looks like a great site to be familiar with, as they offer a 50 -50 deal to promote your photos and stories internationally (if appropriate) to media sources.
Most of us don't have that kind of access and so working with a larger organization that has relationships and access can serve us very well also.
We don't have to surrender our rights to do it either, we still own the rights to our photographs and stories.

I'm excited about it, though it looks like living or visiting overseas would be a great boon, since they talk about how little coverage is available overseas for America with only 4 newspapers now still having foreign correspondents.
