Major League Baseball has suspended umpire
Mike Winters for the rest of the season after
his instigation of ticking time bomb,
San Diego Padres left fielder
Milton Bradley.
The incident occurred during last Sunday's game against the
Colorado Rockies, when Bradley was ejected for arguing with Winters at first base. According to Padres first base coach Bobby Meacham, Winters made the situation worse by swearing at Bradley, who then totally flipped out and tore his ACL... which will keep him out of baseball for roughly nine months.
The Padres, who trail the Arizona Diamondbacks by just one game in the NL West and lead the Rockies and Philadelphia Phillies by a game in the NL Wild Card race, are off to Milwaukee where they open a four-game series Thursday night against a Brewers team that's trying to do the near-impossible: catch the Chicago Cubs for first place in the NL Central.
