Purple Reign: a Cinderella Story

Holy crap! A Dinosaur wearing sneakers!
The Colorado Rockies, after fighting tooth and nail to sweep the Arizona Diamondbacks, are headed to their first World Series in franchise history.
With their 21st win in 22 games -- a 6-4, Game 4 victory in Colorado Monday -- the Rockies squeezed all their scoring into one neat little pile, with NLCS MVP Matt Holliday's three-run bomb into the forest topping off the six-run fourth. With two weeks remaining in their regular season, the Rockies stood still in fourth place in the wild-card race, having to win roughly all of their games to have a shot at the postseason. They've won 10 in row overall and lost just once since Sept. 16th.
In their 14-year franchise history, the Rockies had never even won more than 83 games in a season before going 90-73 this year to finagle their way into the playoffs with a 9-8, 13-inning win over the heart-broken San Diego Padres in the wild-card tiebreaker.
So, with fans waving brooms high in the chilly Denver night, the club joined the 1976 Big Red Machine (thanks Joe Morgan) as the only two teams to kick off the postseason with seven consecutive wins.
Colorado has a record eight days off before the World Series opener in either Cleveland or Boston on Oct. 24th. At this point, the Indians lead the ALCS 2-1.
