Clifton Collins Jr. To Fight Monsters In the Pacific Rim

One of my favorite people in Hollywood is signing on to a really big antipated film. Character actor, Clifton Collins Jr. has signed on for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. He will star alongside Charlie Hunnam, Ildris Elba and Charlie Day. The alien invasion story set in Japan and is being scripted by Travis Beacham. The story is set in “a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.”

At this year’s Comic-Con Del Toro described the monsters in the film to be “Huge”. The film involves giant monsters traveling through a vortex in the pacific rim where they attack major cities and humans must battle them by using mecha suits called Jaegers. He comments,”This is my most un-modest film, this has everything. The scale is enormous and I’m just a big kid having fun.”

Collins Jr. was most recently seen the NBC series The Event as the mysterious Thomas, a member of the non-terrestrials who escaped capture, but now is in contact with the other “sleepers” who are not imprisoned. His character was killed off by a Hellfire missile launched from an Apache helicopter strike that was ordered by the President in the fifteenth episode of the first season. The series has been canceled so don’t yell at me for spoilers. Collins Jr. can be seen next in JT Petty‘s Hellbenders, and Parker with Jason Statham. Pacific Rim arrives in theaters July 12, 2013. He is probably best known for his 2005 role as killer Perry Smith in the fact-based film Capote.
