Pirates Prospects reports that new addition Jordy Mercer, a shortstop promoted Tuesday from Class AAA Indianapolis, won't be replacing Clint Barmes as the Pirates' starter. "Nothing's changed," [Clint] Hurdle said. "Barmes is our shortstop.  

189 batting average in May was 40 points higher than his April average. However, manager Clint Hurdle, who had Barmes while in Colorado, is sticking by the veteran, whom the Pirates signed as a free agent to a two-year, $10.5 million contract in November.

Vincennes Lincoln High School graduate Clint Barmes and Castle High product Jamey Carroll were briefly a double play combination for the Colorado Rockies, before Troy Tulowitzki replaced Barmes at short. He said playing with Carroll was “pretty cool.”
