Peter Axilrod, Manhattan Man, Is Swept into Ocean With Daughter

55-year-old New York banker Peter Axilrod, and his 7-year-old daughter Clio Dahyun Axilrod, were two of the seven people who were swept into the ocean at Acadia National Park. The father and daughter were at a spot called Thunder Hole, watching powerful 15 foot waves crashing into a crevice.

The Coast Guard rescued Peter Axilrod (NY Daily News) The waves, unusually tall from Hurricane Bill, swept the father and daughter, and five others, out to sea. Peter Axilrod was rescued by the Coast Guard, but his daughter drowned in the incident.

Her body was found half a mile away five hours later. The NY Times reported that she was unresponsive when she was pulled out of the water.
