Chaka Khan slammed Clive Davis for holding his annual pre-Grammy Awards party just hours after Whitney Houston’s death in the same hotel where she was found.
Clive hosts the party every year the night before the Grammy’s, but this year’s party was plagued with sadness following the news that Whitney had passed just a few hours before.
Guests decided it was inappropriate to attend the party, which was being held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel where Whitney Houston’s body was found in her room just a few floors above.
Whitney’s friend Chaka Khan who one person that was too distraught to think about going.
“I thought that was complete insanity,” Chaka told Piers Morgan about Clive’s decision to give the party the go-ahead knowing Whitney’s body was still upstairs.
“Knowing Whitney I don’t believe Whitney would have said: ‘The show must go on.’ She was the type of woman that would have said: ‘Stop everything. I’m not gonna be there.’”
“I don’t know what could motivate a person to have a party in a building, where the person whose life he had influenced so enormously, and whose life had been affected by her… I don’t understand how the party went on.”
Piers theorized that Clive had wanted to use the party to tribute Whitney, Chaka replied: “That would have been right if it was really a true tribute. A tribute would have been truer in my opinion would have been to call everyone together and said a prayer, let’s eat dinner and go home.”
“I was supposed to go to the party, I had just got off the plane from Miami at about 5:30, as soon as I hit the tarmac I found out. I couldn’t put on make-up, I couldn’t get dressed.“
