Clive Owen Could Be About To Face Off Against Josh Brolin in ‘Oldboy’ Remake

Clive Owen
Spike Lees
contentious remake of Oldboy may have landed it’s lead villain today.  It seems that British actor Clive Owen has been offered the role, I say offered as he’s yet to make any decision on the matter.  The role of villain Woo-Jin was originally played by Yoo Ji-Tae in Park Chan-Wooks original version of the Korean thriller.  So far the casting of Woo-Jin has been fraught with rumour as various people have allegedly been offered the role only to turn it down.  Originally Christian Bale was in the picture, which could have been interesting when you consider his aptitude for playing unhinged characters, American Psycho anyone?  However that wasn’t to be and the rumour mill proceeded to spit out another actor in the shape of Colin Firth.  His contribution could have added a certain sobriety and gravitas to the role, but once again the mantle was passed.  So now Clive Owen is in the picture, he’s an accomplished actor and more then capable of taking on the role.  Whether we get to see him facing off against Josh Brolin in the lead role however is another matter.  As is often the case in these things we’re just going to have to wait until someone, somewhere makes a final decision.  However with Owen having already worked with Lee on crime drama Inside Man  we could be on to a winner here.  As soon as we hear anything definite, we’ll bring it to you here.
