Cloris Leachman Talks Betty White, Emmy & Her New New Show
Cloris Leachman might be the only person in the world who has a bad word to day about Betty White.
“I’m so sick of Betty White,” Leachman joked at the Television Critics Association’s fall preview panel. “Never liked her.”
The 84-year-old actress, plays the wild, chest-baring Maw Maw in Fox’s new comedy Raising Hope.
And even though Leachman may have had some harsh words for Betty White, but her co-star, Martha Plimpton, had nothing but kind words to say about working with the Oscar and nine-time Emmy winner, Leachman. “It’s a sheer delight.”
During the panel, Leachman didn’t hold back on the profanity either. At one point she asked Plimpton if she had f—— creator and executive producer Greg Garcia in the middle of the panel after Plimpton paid him a compliment. Plimpton scolded her, saying, “that’s make-up trailer talk.”
Leachman isn’t afraid to admit the real reason she joined the cast of Raising Hope either. “You bet your life,” Leachman said of her intentions to receive a 20th Emmy nomination. “If I don’t get an Emmy for this show, I’m leaving.”
Raising Hope revolves around 23-year-old Jimmy (Lucas Neff), who unexpectedly becomes a dad after a one-night stand with a wanted felon in the first episode. Jimmy and his family get custody of the after she is orphaned by capital punishment in episode one.
Raising Hope premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 9/8c on Fox.
