Raven GM Refutes Team Met With Bill Cowher

Back on November 25, I mentioned the rumors that former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher watched the Baltimore-Pittsburgh Monday night game with Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti. At the time, two Ravens officials denied the meeting took place. And now, almost three weeks later, general manager Ozzie Newsome is refuting more Cowher-related speculation:

It’s that time of the year when rumors start circulating about possible coaching vacancies. There was speculation going around that Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti and team general manager Ozzie Newsome met three times recently with former Steelers coach Bill Cowher at M&T Bank Stadium.

Newsome said no such meetings took place.

“That story is nowhere close to being true,” Newsome said. “The owner has never met Bill Cowher in a formal or informal manner. I can’t even remember the last time I met Bill Cowher. Even when they had the gathering of the old-time players in Pittsburgh recently, I didn’t get a chance to see him.”

The Ravens have indicated that Brian Billick will be back for 2008, although you’d have to think if Cowher would even consider the possibility of working in Baltimore, Kissy Face would be gone. Big “if”, though. Cowher continues to claim that he loves spending time with is family and doesn’t miss coaching. Plus … it’s Baltimore, the Steelers hated division rival. I can’t even see Cowher considering such a treacherous act … for less than $10 million per.
