Being a leader isn’t always what happens at the end of the victorious journey. Often, leadership is most visible in moments of crisis and adversity. In the picture above, Detroit Lions Head Coach Rod Marinelli leaves the field after losing every game in the 2008 NFL season (of the last 24 games the Lions have lost 23). I am well aware of the laughingstock that the Detroit Lions have become on the football field. They have achieved the dubious distinction of being the only 0-16 team in NFL history. I must admit, I have taken my share of comedic shots at the Lions over ... Read Full Story

Being at Ford Field on Sunday and in the media room for coach Rod Marinelli was quite an experience. The Lions media, all very nice men just trying to do their jobs, were out on a mission to find out just how and why this team, that started last season so well, has totally collapsed and appears to have quit just five weeks into the 2008 season. Sunday's 26-0 loss to the Green Bay Packers showed just how bad the lack of talent there is on the Detroit Lions.  True, they are more talented than last year's squad but the improvement is relative.  Which brings forth a "chicken and the egg" type of question. Is it the coach that makes the players or is it the players that make the coach? The most recent coach the Lions have had have all been well respected.  Rod Marinelli was lauded by Jon...

As the head coach of the 2008 Lions, the NFL’s first team to go winless in a 16-game season, Bears assistant head coach/defensive line coach Rod Marinelli said he tried to find positives from the adversity. "That's a part that you have a chance to really grow from,” Marinelli said after Thursday’s practice. “When you're hitting bumps, you become more creative. I became more determined, and you embrace the moment. Adversity is something special...

Now the Chicago Bears' defensive line coach, Rod Marinelli insists the game against the Detroit Lions team that he led to a winless record a year ago is no different than any other for him.

Funny that the Lions are heading to Chicago on Sunday. The Bears' defensive line coach is Rod Marinelli, the Lions' head coach as they suffered the NFL's first 0-16 season last year. Much more inside, including: notes, quotes, line-up changes, and more.
