Court records show guitarist Joe Satriani and Coldplay have reached an agreement that ends a copyright infringement lawsuit filed over the band's smash hit "Viva la Vida." Satriani sued Coldplay in December, claiming the band copied "substantial, original portions" of his 2004 song, "If I Could Fly." Coldplay won a Grammy Award earlier this year for "Viva La Vida." A federal judge in Los Angeles last week dismissed the case at the request of attorneys for both sides. I never fully got into Weezer. Believe me, I tried. I’ve had my share of singalongs and even a few attempts at playing some of their songs on guitar. I am, however, a fan of Coldplay, which is why I had to share Weezer’s live cover of “Viva La Vida,” mainly because they don’t ruin it and possibly even do it some justice. The original is no doubt better, especially since Weezer didn’t really add much to the song, but I could see myself getting pretty happy to have them play this at a show.
