Although there is no Mars involved in the remake, it sounds like exactly the same movie. I think I’d actually preferred it if they had copied the Mars subplot anyhow, keeping the film set on Earth might make it seem quite a bit smaller in scope. Then again Colin Farrell is quite a but smaller in scope than Arnold Schwarzenegger, so there ya go.
