With dramatic overhanging roof in front of the entry space, the Colin Powell Middle School shows its best iconic design ever seen. Perfectly designed by Legat Architects, the building occupies 122,000 square feet. This building is built as an academic facility. This academy serves grades 6-8 for Illinois School District 159. Seemingly, the entire building has gained exclusive touch to handle this academy to create a progressive symbol of education for both the students and community. The appearance comes more innovative supported by the use of energy efficiency, environmental conscientiousness, and openness.
As an academic facility for Illinois School District 159, the Colin Powell Middle School gains a complete package of innovative design, high-performance technologies, and programmatic sensitivity. This academic building could accommodate up 1,000 students and 200 staff for grades 6-8. Inside the building features complete space to support students’ activity including a band/choir room, learning resource center, cafetorium, practice gym, and competition-size gym. For the classrooms design, they are constructed into three triangular volumes. Glass-enclosed corridors give natural view directly to the courtyard.
