Clear-Cut Design: I Love Antique Heavy Trucks

By Mike Mello 11.17.2007 Longnose heavy trucks from the middle of the twentieth century hold a certain amount of mystique for me. As a kid, toy trucks were a favorite. They could haul anything, they ruled the playroom and had cool accessories like ladders, extra wheels and dump bodies. As an adult, antique trucks from the 40s, 50s, and 60s, seem to be a pure example of form following function. Whether perfectly restored or wearing a well-worn coat of paint, antique trucks possess a balanced... Read Full Story

1969 When NASCAR raced STOCK CARS!  It was 1969. The Stones, “Honky Tonk Woman” was one of the top ten songs along with “Get Back,” by The Beatles and “Sugar, Sugar,” by the Archies. Richard Nixon was President, a house could be bought for $40,000.00. Milk was $1.26 and gas 36 cents a gallon! A postage stamp cost $0.06 and the average income was $8,547.00. (Were those the days, or what!) NASCAR was a major sport but primarily in the southeast. This was when what won on Sunday sold on Monday... Read Full Story

The truth Dad never knew!

53-plymouth.jpg
I am lucky to be alive today for many reasons but most of them have to do with cars. I have fortunately never been involved in a serious car accident but I have done my share of things that could have killed me or someone else. I will share most of these with you but not all at once. You will hear a lot about my parents 1959 Rambler. My parents were far from rich, they could hardly be classified as even middle class. They scrimped and saved and it was a very big deal when they bought their... Read Full Story

HELP; DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I’VE GOT?

HELP!!!! I have what is called a 68 Mercury Cyclone GT 500 with a Marti Report to document what it is. The car is so far gone it is difficult to know what it is suppose to look like. The Marti Report says only 60 GT 500s were built. I have no idea what this gt 500 option included or how the car should look. Is it worth a restoration? Is the GT 500 something cool or just another stripe package? I do know the car is an original 428 CJ so it does have some value. I have been told it was a... Read Full Story

Vintage Fusca

This cool vintage VW bug was parked in front of MAM last week. I drove a tan one in the mid 80's that was lent by an aunt of mine who never drove it. We call them fuscas in Brazil. Mine didn't even come close to this flawless time capsule that I found on the street. Mine had a moldy smell as it was kept in a damp underground garage and was upholstered in vinyl. Check out the white leather interior! When I saw it I wondered who owned it... A museum curator, or an art collector, maybe a... Read Full Story
