Man whose son fled Minn. to avoid chemo has cancer

A Minnesota man whose son fled the state because his parents wanted to avoid court-ordered chemotherapy says he has cancer — and isn't ruling out chemotherapy.

Anthony Hauser of Sleepy Eye said Wednesday that he's been diagnosed with leukemia. The 55-year-old says he's using blood transfusions and dietary therapies, similar to what he and his wife first wanted for their 14-year-old son, Daniel.

But Hauser says he isn't ruling out chemotherapy or radiation.

His wife fled to California with Daniel last year after a judge ordered he undergo chemotherapy for Hodgkin's lymphoma. His parents wanted alternative therapies.

The case made national headlines, and mother and son returned a week later. Daniel underwent conventional treatment and is in remission.
