Your Questions About Seog

Maria asks…

About the left over money for pell grant and federal seog grant?

I’m supposed to get $3,000 pell grant and 500 federal grant. I’m taking four class which means I’m full time. I compute all the cost of my books and enrollment. And the left over money should be $1000.00. So why am I only getting $200 on federal grant? Is that the only money I get? What about the money for the leftover on pell grant?

New Website Marketing answers:

That seems odd that everything equals up to exactly like that. Oh well.

In any event, I’m going to assume that is 3000 for the whole year. Considering no one can get that much per term.
So that means, you must divide your pell by 2, and you only get 1500 a semesters. So 200 dollars is about right from what you told me.

James asks…

I have recently been awarded a federal pell grant as well as a seog grant based on my husbands total income of

44k…..i need to get a job to supplement our household income to help with the rising expenses of our home. If I did this I would bring home around 19k after taxes…..will i lose my grants at this level of income?

New Website Marketing answers:

Your Pell is based on the previous years income, so if it did… It wouldn’t effect it until Fall of 09 and beyond.
Any increase in income more than the usual cost of living increases usually effects Pell and FSEOG.

Donna asks…

What is a SEOG grant, why did I get it last minute?

I start college in September [taking 3 classes], I filled out an application on FAFSA and was awarded $2,082.00 from the Federal Pell Grant….then just this week I was also awarded another $100 from Federal SEOG Grant…Why did this show up just now? and what is it?

New Website Marketing answers:

Its another grant from financial aid, its for people with the most need.. Your lucky, because not alot of people get that grant, it seems to run out first

Chris asks…

College Financial Aid I was awarded a pell grant, Seog and work/study if I go part-time?

will I lose my grants if I go part-time?
Will I get any refund on what I dont use?
My pell grant is $4700
SEOG $600
Work study is $600

New Website Marketing answers:

If you are attending only part-time, your Pell Grant will be reduced. And depending on your school’s policies, so may your FSEOG and Work Study.

Talk to someone in your financial aid office about attending part-time, and how it could affect your financial aid.

As far as getting a refund, if you still have money left after all your tuition, fees, etc are paid off, then yes, you could get a refund.
