Color your life!

Color blindness is a defect of vision which consists in the impossibility of perception of one or more colors. Although this deficiency is not treated, people  think they don’t have a disability as they develop other ways of seeing the world.

This is a hereditary eye disease which affects especially men. This is a consequence of the disease chromosomal location of genes involved in color perception: two of them, the genes that encode the red and green pigments, are situated on the X sex chromosome, which men have only a single copy.

The term color blindness is the inability to see red and green, in most of the cases, but this may happen for other colors too.

For example, some people do not distinguish any color, only shades of black, white and gray. This disease does not evolve, but it is not treatable. Color blind people learn to live with their disabilities, and develop other reference points to compensate for their perception of non-color.

It seems that they compensate their color deficiency by a better perception of the same color tones and textures.

Obviously, everyone is wondering how color blind people see the traffic light colors? Instead of red and / or green, they perceive different shades of gray, which they associate better the true color, after many years of experience.

An advice for ladies, you know that if you put the sexiest lipstick on your lips,  you will not succeed to seduce a color-blind cause he will not even notice. In fact, they don’t even differentiate a blonde woman with blue eyes of a redhead with green eyes. They see their own custom shade. :D

Although it is said that color blindness can’t be treated, some American researchers  made some tests on monkeys using gene therapy. As in humans, monkeys gene necessary for color distinction is absent. Using gene therapy, they began to show signs promising to cure this defect. For 20 weeks, the monkeys received injections of a specific gene in the retina, L-opsin, the results are truly amazing. They began to perceive red and green dots on a computer screen, the perception is improving over time.

Color blindness can be a real problem in vocational guidance. Hence the interest that the disease is detected as early as possible, so that your child knows what the profession can do and what not. Thus, color blindness is contraindicated in many trades such as: in the army (pilots, drivers and mechanics), civil aviation (pilots, air controllers), sailors, in public transport, bus drivers; in public security: police, firefighters; electrical and electronics, pharmacists, textile industry and printing trades, painting, photography, theater and television, some medical specialties (surgery).

U.S. researchers hope someday to be able to treat color blindness in humans using gene therapy successfully. Currently, over 200 million people suffer from color blindness, most were males. For these people the treatment for color blindness is more than welcome.

Now the technology is so advanced, that many people can live a happy life and healthy, I talk here about their vision, there are mane treatments, such as lasik surgery, intraocular lenses (IOLs) which can help them improve eye sight and a good quality of life.
