An Island of Prosperity

By Ricardo on  From hamdengalaxy.com
“We can’t be an island of prosperity in an ocean of misery” the phrase said by my friend Jeffrey at a recent meeting has been simmering in my head for days. Even though he was referring to Yale’s situation in the context of New Haven, I couldn’t help to think how meaningful this is for all communities. Being an island of prosperity is dangerous and unsustainable if misery is the only thing you can see from your beaches. Why, because that is a tsunami waiting to happen.Like it or not we are...Read Full Story

Goodwill Hunting

By Ricardo on  From hamdengalaxy.com
One of the best lessons my friend Maximilano taught me, was that if you have style you don’t need to spend lots of money to look good. Designers create beautiful clothes and make it easy for the rest of humanity to look half descent, and that is why their clothing is so expensive; but if you know yourself, know your body and were born with the gift of taste, you can actually tell designers “thank you but no thanks”. Don’t get me wrong I love designer clothing as much as the next shallow and...Read Full Story

Keeping it Green

By Ricardo on  From hamdengalaxy.com
I don’t understand people who think that global warming is this elaborate plot created by crazy environmentalists. And even if it is, if global warming is not more than a story invented by Al Gore and his minions to obligate people to take care of their planet, so what? is it that bad asking people to stop wasting money in crap they don’t need and start being a little more conscious? I don’t think so. Fear has being used for way worst agendas than keeping the planet clean.I am by no means an...Read Full Story

Smart, Sun-Powered Trash Cans

By bostongreenscene on  From bostongreenscene.net
by Dan Burgess A few months ago while on a run around the city, I stopped and took notice of a new addition to the Boston-area neighborhood in which I reside: trash cans. I normally wouldn’t think too much about this development, but these waste baskets were different. They weren’t the ordinary receptacles I am accustomed to seeing around the city. These plastic containers were big, plastic, and resembled a post office mail drop box that you see on city curbs. Upon further investigation, I...Read Full Story

Edible plants are easy...

By Evan T. Little on  From gogreenorangecounty.blogspot.com
Success! About a month ago, I stopped by a local Green Thumb plant nursery to find out about which edible plants I could possibly grow on my balcony. The Green Thumb employee was helpful, had a lot practical insight into which plants would work for me and why. For example, he recommended lettuce plants that could be harvested leaf by leaf, instead of an entire head that I myself may not be able to consume before it goes bad. So I just casually pluck the outer leaves as I need them. All but...Read Full Story
