Maria Your Questions About Video Conferencing

Maria asks…

Video conferencing?

What are the disadvantages and/or limitations of using video conferencing for meetings and interviews?

Carol Your Questions About Video Conferencing

admin answers:

Even with high bandwith ability you might get stuttering, voice loss and picture loss. In that case “the flow” of the meeting may be lost especially if you are doing the selling or convincing.

If you organized and proposed video conference and the technology lets you down, your business partner may lose confidence in you.

It may not be logical and connected to what you offer (maybe you build chairs or sell rugs) but people make many decisions based on emotions and not logic.

I added a resource which lists some of the disadvantages of which may be similar to your case.

Betty Your Questions About Video Conferencing

Betty asks…

Where can I find that gives great quality?

My mother would like to have video conferencing with my sister and her new baby who live out of town. She bought some for each of them. I suggested Skype for the video conference, but they weren’t happy with the quality.

I pay for my own server space, so I was wondering if there was a program out there that would let ME host their video conferencing using my own bandwidth to give them a better picture.

Anyone know of anything like this?

Carol Your Questions About Video Conferencing

admin answers:

First of all the quality of the voice and image is dependent on so many different factors that it might not be the software that’s creating the issue, but could even be the sound cards they have, the graphic card, the internet connection… Etc etc..
That being said, there is a good here

http://www.dwyco.citymax.com/page/page/700292.htm

and several more on Source Forge, which is all freeware and much of it is as good as the stuff you buy, if not better.
When in doubt, and in need of software.. Always try sourceforge.net

Lizzie Your Questions About Video Conferencing

Lizzie asks…

What is the best way to install video conferencing for a conference room?

I have a (8000 sq. ft.) that I would like to add video conferencing abilities the conference rooms, there will be 2 conferencing rooms, one on the third floor and one on the first floor. The one room is roughly 20 by 35 and the other is 16 by 25. Is a projector better than a LCD Displays, Is there a system that reasonable priced and offers enough features. Thank you.

Carol Your Questions About Video Conferencing

admin answers:

I like LCD better. You need to decide if you’re going to put blackout drapes in the room as sun coming in the window will wash out your display. If you don’t want to pay for blackout drapes – then make sure whatever you choose it will be bright enough to see well with what light does come into the room. Second and perhaps more important is the sound system. Be sure to choose quality microphones that pick up sound well and transmit as much frequency as possible of peoples’ speech. You want to avoid losing the emotion/intonation as that is very important information. And get good speakers.
