in an audio conferencing system ,each person,s speech is samples 4000 times per second and 256 quantisation levels are used for each sample when one person is speaking at what data rate is their speech being transferred A = 32 KBPS B =128KBPS C = 560 KBPS D = 820 KBPS E = 1.5 KBPS F = 2.2 MBPS THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE

All of the above equations are only good in a perfect environment which the net is not,There are too many factors to apply,cpu speed,internet connexion speed,how many users on that particular server,quality of transmission wires,cables etc

What are the recommended specs for a laptop that would be good to run internet and internet conferencing?
Im in the market for a CHEAP used laptop. I would use it mainly for MSN messenger (video and voice) and some internet browsing. What are the RECOMMENDED (not minimum) specs i would need to run these programs fairly efficiently…RAM, processor, operating system etc etc.Brands and online stores that sell would also b a big help. Thanks!

You sound like an e bay wannabe. Gig of ram, any current prossesor by amd or intel. I find vista to be kick people who don’t like it are back in the stone or just careless or should have there computer confiscated.

It takes 8 bits (one byte) to get 1 sample since 2^8 = 256. So Multiply that by the sampling rate and the time of the sample.

Given that we are talking about an audio-conferencing system with each person’s speech is sampled 8000 times per sec and 128 quantisation levels are used for each sample.

This is as straight-forward as it seems. 8000 samples per second, 128 quantisation values. (7 bit quantisation.)
Seven bits per sample, 8000 samples per second. 8000*7 = 56.000.
~56kbit/sec, or 7kiB/sec is what you’re looking at.
