Scott Garrett: The First Tea Party Congressman?

Matt DeLuca | July 7, 2010

Herb Jackson has an interesting piece on Rep. Scott Garrett, Save Jerseyeans. Despite our South Jersey HQs we do recognize that one of our most important conservative legislators is actually IN New Jersey. Scott Garrett may not be one of the most recognizable names in DC but he has certainly been leading the charge against over-spending and government accountability long before the Tea Parties were even born.

Garrett's independence can be shown here:

Out of 1,382 votes cast since the start of 2009, Garrett voted:

95 times the opposite way majorities of both parties voted.

111 times the opposite way a majority of Republicans voted.

18 times as one of 25 or fewer members in the whole House voting no.

What do Democrats think of Garrett?

"I always liked Scott, but he's gone too far and his brand of conservatism is dangerous and un-American," said Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr., D-Paterson.

Keep up the good work Congressman!
