“Chris Smith has a history of fighting for New Jersey families, so it’s no surprise that he would support our effort to keep young drivers safe,” said Goodwin. “Talking to constituents, Congressman Smith has heard the same things that I have – both parents and teens feel like targets when the red decals are on their cars. It’s time for the Trenton politicians that passed this law to admit it was wrong and approve my legislation repealing the decals.”

Goodwin is the sponsor of legislation, S-1908, that would immediately repeal the teen driver decal requirement that was implemented as part of Kyleigh’s Law.

“Senator Tom Goodwin is a father and a local leader and he understands what we need to do to keep our kids safe,” said Smith. “He knows that putting a target on the backs of young drivers is wrong. That’s why I support his effort to repeal Kyleigh’s Law decals immediately.”

An online petition on the Senator’s website supporting the repeal has been signed by more than 4,600 concerned teens and parents.

“With the Legislature coming back into session shortly, we must move quickly to demonstrate the broad support that exists to repeal the decals,” added Goodwin. “I’m hoping to have 5,000 signatures on our petition to bring to Trenton. Please sign our petition to lend your support.”
