Jan. 2 (Bloomberg) -- The House is likely to pass an economic stimulus measure as large as $1 trillion by President- elect Barack Obama’s inauguration, predicted top Democrat Chris Van Hollen, who invited Republicans to help craft it.  

Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced today that Congressman Chris Van Hollen of Maryland will serve in an expanded leadership role as Assistant to the Speaker focusing on policy issues and incumbent retention.  

Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen can add another leadership position to his resume. Van Hollen will serve as the assistant to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, a role she expanded this week to include incumbent retention.  

Top Democrat Rep. Chris Van Hollen said his party recognizes it is responsible for the performance of the federal government and must deliver on President-elect Obama's list of campaign promises - or else.
