This is a re-post from fellow bloggers at Hillary Spot. This article refers to captured tapes of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia (FARC) discussions with go betweens from the office of Democratic Congressman James McGovern of Massachusetts. The Wall Street Journal says that, "We think the documents reveal something else entirely: Some Democrats oppose the Colombia trade deal because they sympathize more with FARC's terrorists than with a U.S. antiterror ally [Columbia]." The documents also mention Barack Obama and say he will not support a free trade agreement with Columbia. Here is the article:Freddoso in the Corner looks at a Wall Street Journal report on those documents of FARC terrorists captured by the Colombian government, and mentions:
A military strike three weeks ago killed Raúl Reyes, No. 2 in command of the FARC, Colombia's most notorious terrorist group. The Reyes hard drive reveals an ardent effort to do business directly with the FARC by Congressman James McGovern (D., Mass.), a leading opponent of the free-trade deal. Mr. McGovern has been working with an American go-between, who has been offering the rebels help in undermining Colombia's elected and popular government.
Here's the thing — according to other FARC documents, the "Gringos" who were meeting with the terrorists had a different idea of who the next president was going to be:
6. The gringos called for a meeting with the minister to ask him to tell us they are interested in talking about several topics. They claim the new president in their country will be Obama and that these people are interested in their fellow citizens. Obama will support neither Plan Colombia nor the signature of the Free Trade Agreement. In this regard, we replied we are interested in relations with the governments that are on equal grounds and that in the case of the United States, a public statement voicing their interest in talking to the FARC is needed, given their eternal war against us.
