When a politician has bad news to release they usually do it on a Friday afternoon if possible because most people are geared up for the weekend and aren’t paying attention. By the time people are paying attention the issue is not in the news cycle any more. President-elect Obama has taken that standard to a new level. When it came time to release his “cough, cough” internal investigation he did so on the day before Christmas when everyone had Christmas shopping and Christmas plans on the mind and were not paying attention. As if that wasn’t enough political cover he also decided to ... Read Full Story
Media Bias: Is it just us or is there something wrong with the White House dictating news coverage to advance the president's medical insurance agenda? We thought this sort of thing happened only in Venezuela. In an unprecedented intervention by government in private media, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel called all three TV networks and muscled them into giving President Obama prime time coverage for his medical expansion program. For some, Emanuel didn't bother with mere newsmen. He went straight to the top, calling corporate owners such as Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger, whose company controls ABC, and General Electric CEO Jeffrey ... Read Full Story

After reviewing several methods for lowering health care costs and noting that the White House plans to use none on them, James Capretta writes : And so what’s the White House response to this alarming state of fiscal affairs? As recounted in the Times piece, Emanuel blames the limits of politics. “Let’s be honest,” Emanuel apparently stated in a recent interview. “The goal isn’t to see whether I can pass this through the executive board of the Brookings Institution. I’m passing it through the United State Congress with people who represent constituents.” That’s exactly right of course. But it’s also an indictment of the ... Read Full Story

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel recently took a shot at The Brookings Institution, suggesting it didn't live in the political real world.
