Emanuel was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Jewish parents.[6] His father, Benjamin M. Emanuel, is a Jerusalem-born[10] pediatricianwho was once a member of the Irgun, a Jewish paramilitary organization that operated in Mandate Palestine.
