Congressman Tom Lantos

Rep. Tom Lantos (D-CA) died today at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland after a battle with esophageal cancer. He was 80, and a survivor of the Holocaust. The Washington Post reports : "Lantos, born in Budapest to Hungarian Jews, served 14 terms in the House of Representatives. He is the only Holocaust survivor elected to Congress. His district included southwest San Francisco and much of San Mateo County, where he was known for supporting the socially liberal agenda of his constituents. Democrat Tom Lantos, a key voice in Congress on US foreign affairs died on Monday. Lantos' representatives say he was surrounded by his family when he died Monday morning in Bethesda naval hospital north of Washington. Lantos served as representative from California since 1980. Dutch Lawmakers Offended by Rep. Lantos Saturday October 27, 2007 9:01 AM By DESMOND BUTLER Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON (AP) - Dutch lawmakers who visited the Guantanamo Bay military prison this week said they were offended by a testy exchange in Washington with a senior congressional Democrat.
