Former New York Rep. Vito Fossella (VEE'-toh fuh-SEL'-uh) is spending the weekend in a Virginia jail. The Staten Island Republican pleaded guilty Monday to drunken driving there last May. His lawyer dropped him off at the Alexandria Detention Center on Friday afternoon for a two-day stay. Sheriff's Office spokesman Harry Covert says Fossella probably will be kept alone in a small white cell with long slits for windows but may get a roommate if the jail gets crowded. VIRGINIA - Ex-Representative Vito Fossella pleaded guilty to driving under the influence Monday. Fossella was expected to face a local jury Monday in an appeal of his misdemeanor conviction last May but instead walked in the courtroom and pleaded guilty. Fossella’s lawyer said that the ex-congressman was moved by the death of Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart by a drunk driver.
