Barack Obama Flip Flops on Offshore Oil Drilling
John McCain recently flip flopped on the issue of domestic offshore oil drilling and seems to have gained a little bit of traction from people who actually believe that he is telling the truth. He isn’t, he is a fraud and he is just trying to find an issue where he and President Obama disagree. He has finally found one now that he “saw the light” and decided that he supports drilling even after years of opposing it. This has become a hot button issue and seemed to be an issue John McCain could win on. That is until now.
President Obama must have seen that McCain was gaining a little traction now that over 2/3 of Americans want to drill for more oil and so now he has also flip flopped on this issue. The only difference is that Mr. President is smarter than the others who want to drill for oil.
we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage
He will drill for oil the right way, thank God that he is here because he is much smarter than the others who have come before him and will drill smarter. Only he can drill and keep the environment safe. Does he really believe that anybody who finally gets approval to drill will not find new safer drilling techniques that will keep the environment safe? No matter who the president is safer drilling techniques would be a requirement, that is a no-brainer. That statement sounds good but really it means nothing. (Other than the fact that he was on the losing side of this issue and he has now conveniently positioned himself in line with McCain on this issue).
He is once again trying to take both sides of an issue. On one hand he is playing to the American people who support oil drilling, and on the other he is playing to the environmentalists. He can’t have it both ways. Neither can McCain, who has opposed every effort to drill for more oil in the United Sates until he was running for president and saw the latest polls concerning domestic oil drilling. Both of these men are frauds and it is sad to see that these are the best two candidates we could come up with.
Here is a quote from President Obama that really irks me. And we have heard this comment from many Democrats and Republicans who oppose oil drilling, not just President Obama. They are almost all guilty of this misleading statement:
“It’s also important to recognize if you start drilling now you won’t see a drop of oil for ten years, which means its not going to have a significant impact on short-term prices.
What irks me about that statement isn’t the fact that it has been made for many, many years and that if we had drilled years ago instead of debating it we would now be reaping the rewards of the drilling. What irks me the most is the assumption in that statement that if we just switch to alternative energy the problem will be solved over night. Sure it may take a decade to produce oil, but if we start trying to mass produce alternative energy will it arrive any sooner? Can we wave an alternative energy wand and instantly reduce our dependency on oil? I don’t think so, it still takes years to develop and implement other sources of energy. That is what bothers me about that statement, it’s misleading premise that while increased oil drilling won’t help for ten years that somehow alternative energy will be readily available immediately. It all takes time and time is wasting.
