U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland told the Newnan Rotary Club Friday that Washington is a lot like a Baptist church meeting – with people who share goals disagreeing on how to make those goals reality.
“Let me tell you what’s going on in Washington, in case you didn’t know. Nothing’s going on in Washington,” Westmoreland told the Rotarians at the noon meeting at Newnan Country Club.

U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland toured Coweta-Fayette EMC’s north Coweta headquarters on Friday afternoon.
His tour followed a meeting with Coweta-Fayette staff and directors about federal energy policy concerns. He expressed support for a level of regulation that would not stymie utilities in their work to provide electric power to the region.
During his visit to Coweta-Fayette EMC on Friday, U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland explained his vote on a controversial student loan interest bill and commented on the plight of Chinese dissident Chen Guangcheng.
Westmoreland said he voted against a measure to keep interest rates on first-year student loans at 3.4 percent. The rates were reduced from 6.8 percent in 2007, and the pending July 1 increase has created wide media coverage.
