Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren

I'm at the State of the Net West conference hosted by Santa Clara U. Law School. My favorite comment so far was from Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren: "It's good to be back in nerd land." I was heartened that Lofgren sees a core area for investigation is the conflict between copyright laws and antitrust laws. I'm looking forward to that discussion. I'm also interested in Congressman Rick Boucher's comment that a discussion draft of a General Principles document will be published soon that will address privacy concerns and internet affiliate marketing. Over the past six years, federal immigration agents assigned to track down violent criminals who were in the country illegally have also rounded up thousands of nonviolent offenders. A Washington think tank says the arrests of nonviolent offenders was a misuse of funds Congress gave Immigration and Customs Enforcement to find dangerous, convicted criminals living in the United States illegally. The Migration Policy Institute says that since 2003 only 27 percent of the fugitives arrested by immigration agents were convicted criminals.
