Barack Obama: 2008's Ned Lamont

by Eric Dondero

Connecticut Multi-Millionaire Ned Lamont is not a United States Senator today. He lost the general election in 2006 badly to Independent-Democrat incumbent Joe Lieberman. Lamont first beat Lieberman in the Democrat primary with massive support, both financial and grass roots, from the Leftwing Blogosphere including Daily Kos. But he went on to lose badly to Blue-Collar Pro-Defense Centrist Joe Lieberman.

Could we be seeing the same exact scenario playing out today? Obama is the darling of Daily Kos, Huffington Post and the entire Far Left Blogosphere. His fundraising totals are astronomical. But Hillary is disdained by this same group. Her support is limited to "downtrodden" largely Northeastern/Rust Belt Blue Collar and older Americans.

Obama, like Lamont, is an unrepentent 100% Latte' Liberal: Immediate pull-out of Iraq, Nationalization of Health Care, Tax increases. In the '06 election Lieberman was cast as the Centrist, even whispers of his closet "Republicanism." Lamont ruthlessly attacked him in campaign ads for supporting among other things: School vouchers, ending Affirmative Action, "Bush's tax cuts," and of course the War in Iraq.

Hillary's getting attacked daily by these same groups for being a "Supporter of the War" and for being too unwilling to drastically increase taxes and spending programs.

Independent Democrat (sometimes libertarian) Radio Talk Show Host Tammy Bruce had this to say yesterday:

Apparently Dems Really Do Want Racist, Bigoted Elitist Marxism as they prepare to make Barack Obama their national Ned Lamont, another Soros puppet. Fortunately, their Malignant Narcissism keeps them from getting a grip on the larger picture. You'd think they would have learned something from the Lamont 'victory' in Connecticut which was really, of course, a Lieberman victory. But apparently not. I guess they do have one more foot they can shoot off.

Ironically, now Joe Lieberman is heavily rumored to be in line for a prime time speaking slot at the Republican National Convention in August.

If the Dems want to nominate a Far Left Anti-National Security "Ned Lamontian" for President, why should we Republicans stand in their way? After all, the vast Center in Connecticut immediately shifted to Lieberman following Lamont's primary win. No doubt this will occur on a national scale, precisely the same way when Hillary is finally defeated.

John McCain the Joe Lieberman of '08: Déjà vu all over again.

DISCLOSURE: I was a professional petitioner for Joe Lieberman, Independent for US Senate in 2006 on the ground in Connecticut.
