From here until the beginning of the season, I will be highlighting some of the best mid-round values for batters and pitchers from various teams. Today, we focus on Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman, Conor Jackson.
Believe it or not, Jackson may be Arizona’s best fantasy batter this season. Last season, Jackson hit a stellar .300 with 12 home runs, 10 stolen bases. He had 87 runs scored and 75 RBI.
Jackson qualifies at both first base and the outfield, but he should see most of his playing time in the outfield this year.
One thing that stands out to me about Conor Jackson is his stellar batting eye. It is one of the best in the entire league. His batting eye is so good that it almost guarantees he will hit for a high batting average again.
Consider this: Jackson is at the prime age of 26. He has a decent power bat and good speed. What more could you ask for?
Jackson is currently being drafted at a draft average of 118 in CBSSports.com draft rankings. Consider him a bargain at that draft position.
I project Jackson to have a 20 HR-10 SB kind of year, while adding a batting average close to .300 and run/RBI totals hovering around 80-90 in both categories. Not too shabby, especially considering the extra position flexibility.
Here are some other Diamondbacks links you should check out:
Arizona Snake Pit has a nice general Diamondback update, with some latest news on the starting pitching.
Down The Left Field Line has a post on Eric Byrne’s return, but I don’t think Byrnes is better than C-Jax.
The Ghost of Moonlight Graham puts C-Jax in the Steve McMichael Division. Ouch!
Baseball Reflections calls Jackson a mid-to-late rounder for outfield help, and advises everyone to stay away from Chad Tracy.
