I saw an article in the newspaper today that said due to the recent recession, many families have significantly reduced their dining out expenses and are preparing more meals at home. What these home chefs have discovered is that with a little planning, and a little time, they can make meals that taste just as good, if not better, than what they used to go out for. Not only do they taste great, but their meal is much cheaper and there is no need to tip the wait staff. Typically, at the end of a recession, one of the main indicators that the recession has ended is an increase in casual dining (TGIFriday’s, Outback, etc). Today’s home chefs however, have become more content to stay home and enjoy a home cooked meal and watch whatever is you want on your own tv (and not have to ask the waiter to change the channel). Dining out is now appears to be reserved to the more infrequent special occassion at more upscale restaurants. In addition to saving significant amounts of money by preparing home cooked meals, home chefs also have the ability to prepare more nutritious meals since they select every ingredient for every recipe. Who knows, maybe an unexpected side effect of the recession is that families all across America will be eating healthier now that they are cooking more meals at home. Leave a Reply |
