Call me a snob, but I believe that bittersweet chocolate is the sophisticated chocolate. I'll eat milk chocolate in a pinch; semi-sweet chocolate is better; white chocolate: never. So when I came across this recipe for walnut brownies that had a touch of the bittersweet, I knew they wouldn't be common. The recipe is from one of my Border bargains, Baking: A Commonsense Guide , published in Australia. Serving - 24 brownies 2/3 cup self-raising flour2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa poweder1 cup sugar11 1/2 oz unsalted butter, melted4 eggs, lightly beaten1 tsp vanilla extract1 1/2 cups bittersweet chips1 cup walnut pieces Preheat the oven to350 ... Okay , so yesterday was heavy, but I really thought that it was important to address it because the whole page has been hijacked by Mother's Day. I know it is a bit much, but it is my Blog. Even, so I'm not a girly-girl and some of it is a bit much, but I'm trying hard to tailor it to my tastes. By the way, I take suggestions, but it doesn't mean I'll follow it. But, I'll listen and take you seriously. (How would you know anyway?) I feel like a free advertisement. Hey, I am still working non-profit!! The Post before that ... Read Full Story

A collection of what was posted here and elsewhere during the work week. I introduced my orange tres leches with chocolate candied orange peels, experimented with neck (which my friend Greg pointed out can be done in numerous forms of braising) and we debated pre- and post-tax tipping . The ever-talented Clotilde Dusoulier of Chocolate & Zucchini provided a scrumptuous chocolate cake , just in time for Valentine’s Day. Derrick of Obsession with Food explained the differences between frittata and omelets (a topic that came up in my office the same day). Bee of Rasa Malaysia was sick, but still managed to make a ... Read Full Story

Sweetiepie, a New York City (Greenwich Village) restaurant aimed at kids featuring tater tots, griled cheese and the like, along with an intense dessert menu, and a cage you can sit in, also has two cupcakes. I got the two cupcakes offered on their menu, the chocolate peanut butter cupcake and a lemon cupcake with strawberry frosting. Plus they were served on these lovely plates. $3 each and very much worth it. The frosting on the peanut...

Stress eating. If stress eating were a military rank, I'd be the Commander-In-Chief. If stress-eating were a popstar thing, I'd have a fragrance, cookware set and shoes baring my signature. If stress eating were an Olympic sport (a real Olympic sport--not one of those namby-pamby ones where artistic merit marks are bought/sold), I'd be a platinum medallist. Yeah. I'm *that* good. Stressors come

This recipe uses a packaged brownie mix, peanut butter chips, and sweetened condensed milk. The secret crispy ingredient is potato chips in the frosting. The end result is as rich as a candy bar with a fudgy brownie layer, peanut butter caramel, and crispy chocolate frosting. Cut these small because they are sure to cause sugar shock! • Chocolate Peanut Butter Crisp Bars Recipe Chocolate Peanut Butter Crisp Bars RecipePhoto © 2007 Peggy...

Black beans in a chocolate cake recipe? Don't be so quick to sneer. The flavor of the beans is undetectable; they mainly contribute to the fudgy consistency of this flourless dessert, an adaptation of a brownie recipe from 101 Cookbooks. Continue...

Zach Hoeken wrote up a nice piece about the design of the MakerBot Frostruder MK2, currently in its second prototype. He talks about the challenges of designing a cheap, small device capable of computer-controlled cupcake frosting: My first experiment was with some thick, chocolate frosting that you can find in nearly any grocery store. I simply wanted to see if it was possible to use air pressure to extrude frosting, so I wired up a...

Did you really expect anything different? I mean, really, really think things had changed? This isn’t the New England Patriots we’re talking about here. These are the Arizona Cardinals. If they have no idea what to expect from week to week, how are fans supposed to follow along? Never mind that they somehow stumbled out of the [...]

Since a child I have been in love with the Snickerdoodle. Yeah, I know it is just a sugar cookie with cinnamon added but I love them. I would gladly give up chocolate chip and even oatmeal raisin for Snickerdoodles. Part of it is flavor but mostly it is nostalgic. They were my mother?s specialty.
