What Doesn't Work for Me Wednesday - Recipe Ingredient Substitution
Today, there is a change up on the "Works for Me Wednesday" theme. Everyone is sharing lessons that they learned the hard way.I found out the hard way that not all substitutions work great in baking. I hate to throw food out and we had some packets of maple and brown sugar oatmeal that weren't cooking up well because the flavoring was all bunched up in little clumps. Since hubby decided he wouldn't eat it any more, I came up with the brilliant idea of using it in my famous Healthy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe.
These cookies are delicious (probably my most popular blog post ever) and turn out great every time. I figured a little maple flavoring might be a good addition. However, they turned out HORRIBLE with the substitution of the flavored oatmeal. Seriously, they tasted BAD. It's amazing what a difference that little change made. So, I highly recommend you bake these cookies if you want a healther snack (low in sugar and fat, high in fiber), but DO NOT substitute flavored oatmeal!
