So you’ve used your Quiznos coupons and you’ve got a nice, toasty sub. But nothing ruins enjoyment of a toasty torpedo like Captain Planet crashing in to chastise you and to confiscate the eco-unfriendly packaging your lunch came in. Quiznos knows this, so they have launched an “Eat Toasty, Go Green,” campaign that they consider a holistic effort toward more environmentally sound corporate policy. Packaging is one component of that grand scheme, and so every packaging element used in Quiznos stores is now bio-degradable and made from recycled post-consumer content. Here’s what they did:

Salad bowls and catering plates – by switching to 100% natural renewable pulp and agricultural byproducts from plastics, Quiznos has helped to reduce the amount of waste piling up in landfills. Their salad bowls and catering plates are biodegradable and compostable, which will keep 875,000 pounds of plastics from reaching landfills this year alone.
Napkins – all of Quiznos napkins are made of 100% recycled material and fibers, 90 percent of which is post-consumer content. Quiznos estimates that this type of napkin saves 400,000 trees, 16 million gallons of water, and 7 million cubic yards of landfill space. Further, the napkins are made with a bleach-free process that helps to eliminate chemical waste and conserve natural resources, Who knew a little napkin could make such a big difference?
Paper to-go bags and sandwich wrappers – these are made from recycle-able and compostable unbleached paper, which should save 63 tons of waste.
It’s amazing how much waste can be reduced and even eliminated when just one chain makes the choice to go green – and Quiznos isn’t even one of the giants of the fast food world! I’m going to use Quiznos coupons more often from now on, because I want to support a company that’s making positive environmental decisions and I’d like to encourage other corporations to follow suit.
