Kroenke’s Bid Adds More Uncertainty To An Uncertain Rams Future

Just when Rams fans thought their era of instability in the ownership, GM and coaching spots was nearing an end with the selected bid by Shahid Khan, Stan Kroenke threw all of those assumptions into an uproar.

Stan Kroenke has more than enough money for the Rams twice over, but that is not the problem with his bid.  Will the league change the rules to ratify Kroenke as a majority owner?  Rumors circle that he does not want the league to change its rules.  But, who knows with Kroenke?

Will he sell his Denver-based teams to his independently wealthy wife?  Will the league tolerate such a maneuver?  Again, rumors circle that this move would be acceptable, but we do not know for certain.

Kroenke is a member of the Los Angeles Stadium Working Group committee to build an NFL stadium in LA and bring an NFL team there.  With the Rams and the Edward Jones Dome facing a crossroads in 2014, could Stan Kroenke move the team to the potential more lucrative city of angels?  It is possible the LA Working Group rumors are overblown as many owners are on this committee.  ?But, that is also unsure.  Again, rumors circle that he will use LA as leverage to get the best deal out of St. Louis, but Kroenke has not even mentioned St. Louis in any of his statements.

The Rams are in the process of building a solid roster for the future and the last thing the Rams and St. Louis need is more questions and more instability.  The St. Louis Rams need more reasons for their fans to be fired up with the Rams selecting 1st overall in less than a week, but instead the fans are wondering if it worth the money in a bad economy to root for a team that may move in 5 years to another city.

On the other hand, is the best case scenario that the infinitely rich Stan Kroenke will play hard ball to get St. Louis city and county taxpayers to pay for a stadium that puts even more money in the Kroenke family’s already well-lined pockets?

The Rams have had more questions than answers both on and off the field for 3+ years, and now those questions have not been answered and do not look to be answered in the short or long term future.
