You might not be familiar with the name
Cormac McCarthy, however if I mention films like
The Road and
No Country For Old Men things might become a little clearer. In fact he’s the award winning author on whose work those films are based. Famous for his fascinating portrayals of America, and a disturbing lack of punctuation, the author seems to be taking a step closer to film with his latest project. In a surprise move he has produced a script as oppose to a novel for his next project.
The Counsellor is the story of a lawyer who enters the drug business under the misapprehension that he can control it rather then it controlling him, naturally things are never quite as easy as they first appear. The script has been snapped up by three producers who have worked with McCarthy’s material previously,
Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz and
Paula Mae Schwartz were involved in the adaptation of McCarthys bleak end-of-the-world drama The Road. Having described the script as one of McCarthys most disturbing and powerful works there’s no doubt that this is going to make a fascinating film. With the authors direct involvement we could be looking at the most realistic work of Americana yet, stay tuned to hear if the project progresses any time soon.
