Tomlinson wants to remain a Charger

Former National Football League Most Valuable Player LaDainian Tomlinson said Wednesday he does not want to leave the San Diego Chargers.

Whether or not Chargers owner Dean Spanos wants him back, however, is another matter.

Tomlinson addressed trade rumors with a posting on his web site Wednesday, saying that he wants to stay with San Diego.

"I have been getting a lot of messages on my site regarding me leaving San Diego. I feel that I need to make it very clear that I have no intentions of leaving San Diego," Tomlinson said.

"San Diego is where my career started and where I'd like it to end. I have nothing but love and the upmost respect for this team, the players, and the Spanos family."

The Chargers lost to Pittsburgh in the second round of the NFL playoffs and Tomlinson was reduced to a spectator after injuries for the second year in a row. Darren Sproles has moved into his role as top rusher for the Chargers.

Tomlinson, who turns 30 in June, is signed through 2011 and will cost the Chargers 8.8 million dollars against the NFL salary cap in 2009.

Spanos has already said emotion cannot guide the decision about keeping a fan favorite whose production is down.

"Me being traded is completely out of my hands," Tomlinson said. "I have absolutely no control in that decision making. All I can do is wait and see how it all plays out."

Tomlinson was kept to a career-low 1,110 yards on a career-low 292 carries this season while Sproles rushed for 115 yards in San Diego's 52-21 victory over Denver to make the playoffs and 105 yards in a 23-17 playoff triumph over Indianapolis.
