A $1.5 million dollar question - Was Cory Lidle piloting the plane?

Unfortunately, no amount of money will bring Cory Lidle back.  His accident was tragic and its a loss to his family and to the sport.  But now his family might get hit with more bad news.

Cory Lidle was covered by the Major League Baseball Players' union's benefit plan.  The plan includes a $450,000 life insurance benefit and an accidental death benefit of $ 1.05 million.  But the fine print of the plan includes an exclusion for "any incident related to travel in an aircraft . . . while acting in any capacity other than as a passenger."

Lidle and Tyler Stanger, his flight instructor, were killed on Wednesday when Cory Lidle's  Cirrus SR20 plane crashed into an apartment building in New York City. If authorities conclude that he was piloting the plane when the accident occured, Lidle's family may not receive the $1.5 million insurance benefit.
