The San Diego Chargers have signed former Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Jon Runyan.

The Chargers are thin on the line with right tackle Jeromey Clary out indefinitely with an ankle injury. He was carted off the field during Sunday’s win over the Denver Broncos. Rookie Brandyn Dombrowski is expected to start in his place.

They have also played without starting center Nick Hardwick since he suffered an ankle injury in the season opener against the Raiders.

Runyan, a 2002 Pro Bowler,  is a 13-year veteran with a reputation as a sometimes dirty but highly effective and intimidating player. He underwent microfracture surgery on his right knee after the 2008 season and is now a free agent after spending nine years with the Eagles.
