According to Wikipedia.org: The Sicilian Mafia or, simply, Mafia, or even more correctly Cosa Nostra is a criminal secret society of men which first developed in the mid- 19th century in Sicily. An offshoot emerged on the East Coast of the United States during the late 19th century following waves of Sicilian emigration. Though it originally referred only to the Sicilian Mafia, the term mafia is today used to indicate an organized crime association.
