Don't You Tell Me...!!

Love this image. It really mirrors my thoughts on societal rules... I have just never been able to grasp falling in line and doing things just because some self-serving regulating body tells me it's a good idea and "in my best interest" or because I see my peers doing it.

I was recently having a heated conversation with a business associate about life and my attitude toward societal rules. It was pointed out to me that "societal rules, policies etc. exist because they work"... Ha! Well, perhaps if we were all clones, one policy, one system, one set of rules might work. Still not likely but humor me and let's consider it for a moment.

Tell, me? Does an education system that stifles the natural inquisitiveness of our children really work? If a 30% "success" rate is an indicator then sure, it works. According to stats provided by an early intervention program for youth in my local area 70% of the students in Canadian public schools are struggling both academically and socially. In 2001 it was estimated that 25% of adults in America were functionally illiterate. What?

Does a primitive justice system which has consistently overcrowded prison facilities seem to be working? If it were, the repeat offender rate would be zero or close to it. Does a similar fear-based "reward/punishment" disciplinary system work for our children? Well, again I'd have to look at how many children still spend time in their rooms or even detention halls, group homes and other programs for troubled youth.

And world governments? Who wants to try to tell me that they aren't evil or corrupt and that they have my best interest in mind? Or our hailed media which is controlled by the same group that pulls the puppet strings on our world leaders. They have nothing but censorship and control of world history on their agenda.

These systems are out-dated, ineffective and often outright plots to deceive and destroy us. Of course they appear to work for some; anything will always work for some people. It's a numbers thing but all in all our current systems are in dire need of a major overhaul. Our world is changing more rapidly than ever before and our systems need to keep up. Our children are not our parents breed or even our own.

We need to acknowledge and accommodate this before we lose them. Learning disorder rates are on the rise along with ADD, ODD and school violence... I could really become long-winded on this one. The bottom line is that we need to adapt to the changing definition of the world we live in rather than prescribe more drugs and mete out more punishment.

Perhaps my associate would like a one world government (NWO) as well since he seems to think the one-size-fits-all approach works. I wonder how he feels about communism and police states? I should remember to ask.

Who was is that said "Doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, universities destroy knowledge, governments destroy freedom, the major media destroys information and religions destroy spirituality."? Smart man.

It's just my opinion but I think education should be a way of life, not a dreaded obligation and children should be taught how to love learning, not how to regurgitate facts from memory. Discipline should reflect the literal meaning of the word, which is "to teach" not "to punish" and justice could be a little more personal and restorative.

...but what the hell do I know?
