Since starting my farm blog I have kept my camera in my pocket and this is the very reason why. It seems like the best pictures are when you least expect them. I was gathering water buckets to take in the house to thaw this morning and when I turned around this is what I saw. This is "Bug" a recent rescue. She's about 5 months old and always has her nose in everything. She even follows me in the field when I feed the cows. She got the name "Bug" from staying under my feet and I told her one day I was going to squash her like a "Bug", and since she stills stays under my feet the name stuck. There just seems to be something about this cat that everyone loves, usually its hard to get rid of kittens, but everyone wants her. My neighbor even asked me if I was going to let her have kittens so she could have one like her. I told her my luck she would have a dozen and none would be like "Bug", so she's getting ready to visit the vet.We have 5 now and that's plenty for me.
Here's Ace enjoying his water. He's a Dwarf Lion Head, but to be small he sure does eat and drink alot. He's another "freebe" to the farm. We were given three by some friends of ours, two does and a buck or so we were told. When I went to the "doe's" pen one day I got a big surprise and a few more rabbits. We tried keeping rabbits for a while, but they multiply too fast and eat alot. And of course they are all cute and the girls want to keep them all. My friend Donna raises rabbits so we gave the rest of them to her, but we kept Ace. Like I said before, I've learned with animals and kids, get miniature animals, they eat less and they stay cute.
One thing I have learned from having the farm is everyone loves to give you animals. My friend Rhonda works for the vet where we take our animals. Everytime I take something in to get spayed or neutered she laughs and says "What are you going to do with this one?" Alot of times I'm a halfway house, If I know I can find an animal a good home I will take it in if the last resort for it is the animal shelter.I even gave my friend Leslie's 3 girls a pony. They had just bought a farm and didn't have any animals. My girls had out grown him, but I couln't bring myself to part with him unless I knew he was going to a good home. We can visit him anytime we want and if they decide they don't want him, they can bring him back. I also gave them a few chickens. They are new to farming and enjoy them all.
Well, I've got to venture out to the store today. The girls have only when to school 1 day in the past 16 due to bad weather and their Christmas break. It was 13degrees here this morning with a couple inches of new snow. We are supposed to stay below freezing and more snow is on the way. I've held off as long as I can.
Have a good one!
