Construction Zone There is plenty of racket going on over at Odell Brewing Company in Fort Collins, Colorado these days. If you haven't visited the brewery for the last several months you might not recognize the place. The facility has practically doubled in size. I had a chance to visit the brewery yesterday and took some video of the construction outside. Quite a bit has happened since August during my last visit. An expanded brew house has been enclosed, new office space is being built, a new parking lot on the West side has been laid and and expanded tasting room is being finished. ... Read Full Story
WESTMALLE, Belgium (Reuters) - A gold standard for beer connoisseurs, the Trappist ale in Westmalle Abbey streams through state-of-the-art equipment with not a monk in sight. It's thoroughly in accord with strict criteria -- that brewing be carried out within the walls of a Trappist abbey and controlled by monks -- but shows the changes wrought on the potent ales by modern life and aging monastic populations. "The requirements are a lot greater these days," said Westmalle director Philippe Van Assche as he stood beside a 10 million euro ($15 million) bottling plant. "You need a lab, there are health standards to meet, bottling ... Read Full Story

No, it's not Christmas yet, but the brewers and owners at Dry Dock Brewing Company aren't waiting for Santa to pull off another winter / holiday beer. This time, they need your help in choosing which holiday beer to produce. The employees of Dry Dock are having a bit of competition to see which of three different recipes will be used to release as their 1st bottled beer. Up until now, everyone had to get a Dry Dock beer either from the brewery or in a keg on tap. Soon, however, you will be able to sample their winter holiday beer from a 22oz ... Read Full Story

Brewery Name: Red Rock Brewing Company Location: Salt Lake City, UT Name of Brew: Amber Ale Style of Brew: “Northwest Style Pale Ale” ABV: N/A This is the second time I’ve traveled away from home and found a brewery claiming to produce a “Northwest Style” of beer. The first was the Amber Waves Ale from Capitol City Brewing Company in Washington, DC . Obviously people seem to like the beers produced in the Northwest and I would have to agree, the guys around here know how to brew some good shit. The Red Rock Amber Ale in fact is their No. 1 best seller, ... Read Full Story

When it comes to beer, and especially craft beer, there is one style that very nearly polarizes the people who drink it. Some will go on and on about the flavors and nuances, while others will simply spit it out and say "no thank you." That style is the good old American India Pale Ale.

Filed under: Beer, Business, Food News New Belgium Brewery tasting. Photo: Tobyotter, Flickr. During an economic recession, one of the first things to be downsized is company perks. At New Belgium Brewery, a craft brewer in Ft. Collins, Colo., one of the biggest perks is free beer. Employees used to be able to take home 24 bottles of beer every week, but in February take-home brew was reduced to a mere 12 bottles. Not many employees are...

[Photographs: Maggie Hoffman] Last week, we enjoyed some malty brown ales from England. But those beers didn't really prepare us for the brown ales produced by American craft breweries. While some of these beers take after their British forefathers, others diverge widely from the classic style. We tried bright, hoppy brown ales and sweet, pruney brown ales; rich, heavy brown ales and dry, lighter ones; reddish brown ales and blackish ones...
